Christophe Jacrot : lost In the beauty of bad weather
Christophe Jacrot
- Teneues Verlag
- 11 Septembre 2023
- 9783961714971

As a highly visual, astute, and rapid observer of the world around him, photographer Frank Ockenfels 3 takes in an abundance of images that serve as artistic stimuli for his creative mind. A process of collision, collusion, and collaboration is the genesis of his creativity, leading to the transformation of a photographic image into something else, a «re-presentation» of what he saw through the lens. It becomes a new form that communicates a new message, a new meaning; often conveying a more powerfully emotional visual statement. The works of Ockenfels 3 in this book provide a window into his visual thinking, the internal world of imagery and emotions in his mind. Subjected to ink, collage, or paint, the images are no longer just photographs of an individual, but become a more personal statement of who the artist is, of his psyche and as such, creative artistry in its purest form. The erotic, the sublime, and the violent collages are blended with portraiture that seamlessly complement each other. The photographic creations become tactile, bringing another dimension of sensory experience. FWO3 is propelled by a drive and curiosity to discover an image that is not yet known, at the same time he creates a visual language that speaks from the most primal and dark corners of his mind. He creates waking dreams, images that represent the darkest, least-illuminated aspects of his unconscious projected on the person he has photographed. He has the courage to go way beyond the expected and the obvious to the breaking of boundaries of traditional photography. Ockenfels 3 does not play it safe, and as a result, he is very effective at evoking from the viewer aspects of their own psyche of which they may or may not be aware. One cannot help but feel a resonance with the chaotic vibrancy of his mind. He leaves the imprint of his unconscious on the photographic image. Creativity: that wonderful intersection of dream, fantasy, and art is not just an opportunity to express a concept or an emotion, but an occasion to open up an experience in both the artist and the viewer. This can result in a disquieting, yet aesthetically pleasing moment in time.

Light on the Riviera : photography of the Côte d'Azur
Sophie Wright
- Teneues Verlag
- 1 Mai 2022
- 9783961713950
The Cote d'Azur has always captured the imagination of artists. Many of them arrived on the sun-drenched coast in the early 20th century, having left Paris to enjoy this beautiful region at a time when it was not yet a famed tourist destination. And there they stayed. Legendary for its special light, the French Riviera also spurred the development of art photography to a certain degree, attracting intellectuals and bon vivants, along with those who wanted to be in close proximity to this artistic world. The great influx of painters, photographers, and fashion designers created a rich legacy throughout several decades. This legacy will be narrated chronologically by decade in the book, starting with the beginnings of photography at the turn of the century, and continuing with the 1920s with the fashion of Jacques Henri Lartigue, the Surrealists up to the end of the war, the Golden Fifties of paparazzi photography, the portraits of artists, and photojournalism.

Post-war Paris brought a blossoming of culture and thought. The Nouvelle Vague transformed French cinema, young couturiers reinvigorated French fashion, existentialism flourished in literature and philosophy, and the city swung and swayed to a vibrant jazz and rock 'n' roll scene. In the middle of it all, was Paul Almasy.
The well-travelled photojournalist, born in Hungary, had made Paris his hometown and spent his days and nights wandering its alleys, avenues, and after-hours bars. Through his photographs, we visit the old markets and artist's studios, its music joints and glamorous cafes, but also the burgeoning banlieues, where immigrant workers were housed in high-rise apartment blocks in peripheral and isolated locations. -

Alfred Weidinger, Maria Reitter-Kollmann
- Teneues Verlag

- 9783961714872

The Prix Pictet highlights photography on the crucial topic of global sustainability. Now in its fourth season, the current Prix Pictet delves into the theme of "power." While we have tapped into sources of power for travel, industry and our modern lifestyles, we are still largely at the mercy of the powers of nature. Technology and infrastructure can undergo total collapse in the face of storms, volcanoes, and earthquakes. Meanwhile political and social power can either tackle such challenges or become ways to exploit and tyrannize. This multi-faceted subject is portrayed with thought and artistry by the twelve exceptional artists shortlisted for this prestigious photography prize.
